Content
Established as an expert in a particular software systems function. Identifies systems needs and plans, designs and implements potential enhancements. Leads multiple projects. Because design and development work may affect hardware decisions, is involved in the review of the software systems´ impact on hardware architecture. Interfaces with hardware engineers to determine hardware and systems compatibility, and to plan modifications. Establishes the processes needed for new and existing systems. May review the work of less experienced software engineers.

Scope
Has thorough understanding of technical concepts required for specialized field. Uses that knowledge, creativity and company practices and priorities to obtain solutions to complex problems. Provides work leadership to others. Interfaces with senior management to provide and obtain information and to build consensus regarding project direction.

Responsibilities:
* Design and implement embedded software for next generation IP based precise time and frequency delivery and distribution systems.
* Operate in a multi-functional role often consisting of software architect, designer and implementer/coder.
* Work as team lead or project lead as needed
* Work with internal developers as well as other remote developers

Preferred Experience Requirements:
* Minimum Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Physics
* Minimum 15 years of embedded software design experience with 5 year minimum writing programs for embedded Linux
* Extensive experience in embedded UIs (CLI, SNMP, Web, XML) design and implementation
* Solid programming experience in C and C++ with emphasis on embedded systems
* Hands on experience with embedded Linux development environment and tool chain
* Solid understanding of OS coding techniques such as threading, processes, IPC, drivers, interrupts, etc
* Solid experience of using IP protocols and network programming
* Understand hardware subsystems, interfaces and hardware debugging method
Excellent communication, writing and organizational skills

Experience or knowledge in one or more of the following areas will be greatly valued:
* Packet network time synchronization protocols, such as NTP and IEEE-1588
* Telecom and network protocols and technologies such as T1/E1/SDH, IPv4 and IPv6
* Wireless communication systems and networks
* Network security protocols such as Radius and others
