In addition to generating time, Symmetricom products distribute and apply time, enabling a range of critical operations - from controlling or synchronizing the flow of voice, video, and data throughout communication networks, to securing mobile communications in war zones or facilitating complex navigation systems in space. All products support today´s precise timing standards, including GPS-based timing, IEEE 1588 (PTP), Network Time Protocol (NTP), Synchronous Ethernet and DOCSIS® timing.
As our product set grows, we are also expanding our development and test capabilities. We are currently seeking a Test Engineer with a broad range of experience to join our manufacturing engineering team.
As a member of the ME team, you will work alongside operations, manufacturing engineers, development engineers and other test engineers to create Automated Test Systems and upgrade older systems to validate products in both current and next generation precise time and frequency systems. Selected candidate will support the ongoing problem resolution of products and development of automated and semi-automated test systems for electronics and timing products. This will entail working closely with operations and engineering to understand and optimize the testing requirements for production. Development and maintenance of Labview code will be a crucial aspect of this position. Other requirements may include product testing / troubleshooting, and test equipment setup and creation of operation and maintenance documentation.


Example activities you will perform in this position include:

*Developing test methods, software and hardware design, install software and develop automation in coordination with development engineering
*Supporting the ongoing problem resolution and upgrade of current production automated and semi-automated test systems
*Interfacing closely with hardware design engineering as part of concurrent development to define and implement manufacturing test strategies
*Working with manufacturing and development engineers to identify and implement potential enhancements to existing test and measurement systems.
*Initiating and driving the development and review of test processes, plans and procedures following Symmetricom's test platform.
*Executing tests against hardware and software to validate features, functionality and performance
*Documenting results and work closely with developers and others to analyze and debug issues
*Designing, implementing and configuring test beds supporting validation of Symmetricom products
*Debugging hardware for both analog and digital designs
*Travel (some) will be required.

The scope of this key role requires a thorough understanding of technical concepts essential for specialized test system development.

Additional qualifications for this key role include:

*Minimum requirement: BSCE/BSCS/BSEE degree plus 5+ years experience in software or test automation or equivalent experience
*3+ years directly applicable experience in ATE development
*Extensive experience in Labview or similar test software development
*Prior experience in developing and implementing production test plans, procedures and test documentation from primary design documents and international standards.
*Highly analytical mindset with exceptional problem solving and critical thinking skills
*Creative - develops and presents many varied and unique ideas
*Experience interacting with teams to solve technical issues related to product testing
*A passion for learning about precision timing, instrumentation, GPS and related areas
*Strong verbal and written communication skills, including exceptional teamwork skills
*Experience using electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, time interval counters and logic analyzers
*Demonstrated expertise in test methodology and system-level test architecture development
*US Citizen

Desired qualifications include:

*Knowledge of electrical products and circuitry
*Firmware development experience
*Experienced in manufacturing test in effective and robust measurement techniques, including SPC, test limits, and yield
*Visual Basic, Access Database, Test Stand, ORACLE, SQL
*Knowledge with one or more of the following areas: communications systems (wireless, wireline, packet), telecommunications networks (T1/E1), data communications networks (10/100/1000 Ethernet), IP switching and routing, IPV6, real-time embedded processors, troubleshooting, and root cause failure analysis.
