JOB DESCRIPTION
Vigilent is looking for an experienced Software QA Engineer to help revolutionize how energy is managed in large data centers, while making for a greener planet. You will work closely with the engineering team to advance the state of the art in dynamic cooling control, and with the field implementation and support teams as they deploy sophisticated client-server applications at sites requiring the highest uptime and reliability. To succeed, you must be responsive, flexible, and comfortable in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
The position is full-time and based in our El Cerrito (California) office.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Define, develop, and execute test plans and test cases for manual and automated testing of complex software implementations in a distributed client-server environment.
• Review design documentation and UI prototypes to assess usability and testability.
• Uncover, isolate, document, regress, and test defects, questionable behaviors, deviations from requirements and other standards, etc.; manage through resolution.
• Help define and track software QA standards and metrics; assess the quality level of both unreleased and shipping products.
• Work with field implementation teams and customer representatives to diagnose and resolve issues at customer sites.
• Create test beds and generate test data as needed, using both physical hardware and virtual machines.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
• Minimum four years of professional software, system test, QA, or systems engineering experience in building high quality commercial, enterprise-level products.
• Strong experience in implementing complex tests (integration, functional, regression, user interface) that require an understanding of the application logic.
• Experience diagnosing, reporting, tracking and resolving quality issues.
• Very experienced with standard QA tools and techniques, including test design, test execution, test case tracking.
• Experience with migrating from manual to automated testing.
Skills
• Focused on identifying issues with product design, features, or performance, before they manifest at customer installations.
• Strong attention to applications workflow and usability.
• Detail oriented, strong problem-solving and diagnostic abilities to determine the potential root causes of functionality or performance issues of complex systems.
• Proficient in Linux and scripting (Python, Perl, bash). Able to write simple SQL queries.
• Self-starter able to remain flexible and learn new technologies quickly.
• Excellent communication and problem solving skills.
Education
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
Desired Skills
• Familiar with Unix-based source control systems. Knowledge of git desired.
• Familiar with virtual machines: exposure to maintaining software that creates and manages virtual machines, particularly on Linux/Unix.
