[KITlist-Tech] Consumer Experience Designer (Palo Alto, CA)

Please direct your responses to: westcoastrecruiting@teamaol.com

Market Location: Palo Alto or NYC

Are you a product designer looking for a challenge? Want to play an active role in redefining and revitalizing an Internet icon? AOL is hiring product designers in New York, NY and Dulles, VA for our central consumer experience team.

The Role
You're part consultant, part teacher, part fixer, part policeman, and part janitor. You'll parachute into a series of engagements across AOL to help product teams improve the quality of their consumer experiences. That means everything from leading brainstorms to building mockups to correcting typos to defining use cases.

You'll embed with product teams for a week or a month, helping them create superb experiences and develop the skills to do it on their own in the future. You'll touch a lot of products, you'll advise a lot of people, and you'll come in with the ability to make things happen.

The Requirements
- More than five years professional experience in product design, interaction design, visual design, and/or prototyping.
- Aptitude for product-level thinking: user needs, target demographics, market opportunities.
- Expert in Photoshop and Illustrator. Proficient in other design apps (e.g., InDesign, OmniGraffle, Fireworks, Dreamweaver).
- Proficient in HTML and CSS with a working knowledge of evolving standards (e.g., CSS3, HTML5). Familiarity with JavaScript is a plus (as well as YUI, jQuery, or similar).
- Superb diplomatic skills.
- Proven leadership skill and experience.
- A team player…but an outspoken one.
- A tolerance for risk and change. As a company in transition, AOL is changing on all levels, and taking risks to reinvent itself.
