This new position in SRI's Information Technology Services (ITS) group will support and improve SRI's web environments, including a new Drupal implementation for the public SRI website. Responsibilities will include web design, programming, system administration, direct user support, and documentation. We are looking for someone who can develop and implement technology solutions to meet SRI´s goals and strategies for its website, initially for a new public site and ultimately for a new intranet. To that end, candidates should be proficient with the popular web programming languages, tools, and protocols, and be experienced developing new approaches in areas such as search engine optimization, mobile platforms, social media, and collaboration systems.

The Web Developer will also assist with the day-to-day maintenance of SRI's intranet and public website while also working on challenging web development projects. This position involves coordination with numerous groups at SRI, and in particular, he/she will collaborate with SRI´s marketing group regularly to implement web initiatives.

The ideal candidate will also:
• Consistently produce high-quality deliverables
• Initiate, develop, and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues
• Understand how design affects a website and its usability and effectiveness
• Continuously improve the web environment through strategic planning, proactive maintenance, and strong attention to detail
• Develop innovative solutions to unique challenges
• Take initiative in identifying potential problems and take the necessary steps to resolve them
• Comply with and promulgate industry coding and implementation standards, as well as company standards
• Provide excellent service experiences for internal customers
• Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical staff
SRI maintains a 24x7 support environment for its core IT services. To minimize system down time, this position requires some after hours work for server upgrades, repairs, and emergency support.

Requirements:
• Minimum of a bachelors degree in computer science, information technology, or related field
• 5+ years experience with PHP, Perl, MySQL and other RDBMS, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• 5+ years experience configuring and maintaining Apache web servers in a Linux environment
• Experience with AJAX and HTML5 is a plus
• Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Drupal 6.x is preferred
• Clear understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, SSL, and public key infrastructure
• Strong problem solving, troubleshooting, and debugging skills
• Excellent communication skills – in person, by phone, and via email
• Good documentation and presentation skills
• A background check is required as part of this recruitment process.
