This position serves as a technical resource to support A100, part of the Amazon.com, Inc. group of companies, and any other organization as directed. The position will help ensure the overall availability of A100´s data centers meet or exceed defined service levels of its customers.

The Data Center Engineer will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, and HVAC equipment within the Datacenter. This equipment supports mission-critical servers and must maintain better than 99.95% uptime. The Data Center Engineer will continue to maintain high reliability and performance while keeping operating costs in facilities at a minimum, the engineer will drive innovation to reduce operational costs.

The Data Center Engineer will maintain, operate, troubleshoot, Operations Mission Critical Facilities, which includes stand-by diesel generators and related fuel systems, 3 phase electrical systems that include but not limited to switch gear, UPSs, PDUs, wet cell batteries and associated systems, CRAC units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers/water chemical system, air handlers and associated systems, pumps, & motors.

Experience and Skills:
• At least three years experience as part of a facilities team environment providing on-call support of multiple data center facilities.
• An undergraduate degree in a technical field (EE, MechE, IndustrialE) is desired
• An excellent understanding of the electrical and mechanical systems, including systems such as feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units.
• A very good understanding of the compromises between reliability, efficiency and cost.
• Excellent project management skills, ability to work in a fast-paced and hectic work environment, ability to prioritize tasks effectively; and an ability to work seamlessly across organizational boundaries.
• Previous vendor management skills for data center and/or upgrade construction contracts.
• An ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs with a minimal impact on reliability
Specifically you will:

• Analyze equipment failures and equipment to improve performance and reliability
• Analyze heat transfer
• Analyze vibration
• Design Solutions for a Data Center including but not limited to:
o machines that manufacture and package all varieties of products
o rotating equipment - pumps, compressors, blowers, turbo-machinery
o pressure vessels - heat exchangers, boilers
o storage tanks
o piping systems
o HVAC/air handling systems
o Electrical distribution systems
• Test quality, performance, safety, and reliability of products, equipment, processes
• Develop algorithms for data analysis and trending. Use constraint based modeling and web monitoring tools
