Responsibilities
Departmental Management:
Provide leadership, vision, and management to the department; work with administration, faculty, and staff to assess and respond to campus IT needs; hold regular departmental meetings to review strategic goals and initiatives, promote team building and work to provide growth paths for staff. Manage ongoing operations providing quality and timely support for those IT systems assigned; provide day-to-day supervision, conduct performance appraisals, and delegate work assignments for personnel assigned; responsible for recruiting, hiring, and providing appropriate training for staff; administer the department budget; serve on planning and policy-making teams as assigned.
IT Operations:
Identify emerging information technologies to be assimilated, integrated, and introduced within the infrastructure; following the change management processes, oversee the development, design, and implementation of new applications and systems and changes to existing computer systems and software packages; assess new computing technologies and the feasibility of system enhancements to determine potential value for the ; manage the ordering, acquisition, inventorying, and disposition of hardware and software; serve as primary contact with outside vendors in the generation of RFPs, bids, contracts, agreements, and other major vendor interactions on those systems and software assigned; ensure the continual functioning of mission critical operations; maintain security and privacy of the systems and software assigned; develop, review, and certify all back-up and disaster recovery procedures and plans for systems and software assigned.
Project Portfolio Management and Processes:
Maintains the IT project portfolio; maintains and develops templates and tools for use by project coordinators; provides reports to the Cabinet Technology Steering Committee on project portfolio status; works with senior ITS management in developing processes and policies for project management.
Project Management:
Using best practices from PMBOK or Prince2, lead projects of significant magnitude in terms of complexity, cost, time-constraints, internal and external staffing, and equipment including software and hardware. Identifies needs and will allocate the appropriate resources to meet timely completion of specific project tasks; provides direction to project teams including assignment of individual responsibilities, tasks and technical functions; continually monitors individual progress to insure meeting of specific deadlines; coordinates and actively participates in all stages of project development including research, design, programming, testing and implementation; coordinates changes of considerable consequences to the scope and schedule of the project; leads and coordinates project update meetings, and documents project status and issues; apprises senior IT management key stakeholders of project status, issues and concerns; actively pursues issue resolution, and communicates project status/issues to business stake holders and operational management; provides regular project communications to IT management and stakeholders. Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Requires
Knowledge, special skills and abilities required:
Ability to work with end users to define requirements and to translate those requirements into technical specifications; knowledge of and competence in a wide variety of operating systems, network configurations, client/server technologies, and software standards and systems; ability to monitor and manage vendor relationships to assure responsiveness and quality; strong analytic and problem-solving skills; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and with strong technical writing and documentation skills; experience with personal computers, electronic mail, and productivity software such as MS Office suite, SharePoint, MS Project, and Visio; ability to evaluate complex problems and provide straightforward solutions, and successfully implement those solutions; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a diverse student, faculty, staff, and community is essential; experience with Windows 2005 and 2008 including Active Directory, Linux, Solaris, VMWare, SAN, NAS, and load balancers; incumbent is responsible for knowing and complying with applicable policies and procedures. Excellent computer skills using common business and productivity software (e.g., MS Office, Outlook, Visio, etc.); willingness to learn new technologies; in addition, incumbent will be responsible for understanding appropriate information security laws, policies and practices.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor´s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration or equivalent, and five (5) plus years of directly related experience, including supervising technical staff and resources (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered); knowledge and experience with project management, including the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, effectively manage time, and prioritize tasks. Project management certification such as CAPM, PMP or Prince2 is desirable; ITIL Certification or knowledge of best practices in IT Management.
Preferred Skills & Knowledge
Prefer a Master´s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or an equivalent field.
