Job 140681: Sr. Software Development Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION:
CreateSpace innovates to provide tools and services so everyone can easily create and profitably publish books, music, and video to a worldwide audience. Once a customer places an order, CreateSpace manufactures the product on-demand, removing the need for stocks of inventory, keeping costs down for the author or artist, and increasing return. While publishing was once the privilege of a select few, self-publishing is now changing how ideas reach people.

Zero Mass Engineering (ZME), part of the Amazon.com family of companies, develops software for publishing businesses, including CreateSpace. We build innovative solutions for independent publishing, on-demand manufacturing, and digital distribution.

We are looking for a passionate, results-oriented, inventive software developer to drive the creation of the tools to make self-publishing mainstream. As a Software Development Engineer you will be responsible for designing, implementing, testing, and deploying new features. Your ultimate goal will be to deliver software that significantly lowers the barrier for entry into independently publishing books. Successful candidates will be strong leaders who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, and have a consistent track record of delivery. ZME requires creative engineering balanced with high quality and customer focus.

ZME, a division of A2Z Development Center, Inc. is part of the Amazon.com, Inc. group of companies.

BASIC QUALIFICIATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline
• 7+ years of relevant engineering experience
• Proficiency in C++, C#, or Java
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• A deep understanding of software development in a team and a track record of shipping high quality software on time
• Exceptional customer relationship skills including the ability to discover the true requirements underlying feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience mentoring other software developers
• Strong user experience design skills
• Deep hands-on technical expertise and ability to drive consensus across organizational boundaries
• Strong business and technical vision
• Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with Scrum and/or other Agile development techniques

Zero Mass Engineering, part of the Amazon.com, Inc. group of companies, is an equal opportunity employer. ZME is located in San Luis Obispo, CA.
