JOB DESCRIPTION:

Zero Mass Engineering (ZME), part of the Amazon.com, Inc. group of companies, develops software for self-publishing companies. We build innovative solutions for independent publishing, on-demand manufacturing, and digital distribution.

We are seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer to join our team of engineers in beautiful San Luis Obispo, California near Cal Poly University.

This team works with companies both in the US and internationally, on high-value integration projects helping them leverage each other´s technology. You will have opportunities to learn a wide range of new technologies, work with a dynamic group of other engineers and businesses, and may have a chance to do a little traveling. If you´re more excited to finding new solutions to old problems rather than wearing a pager to support a years-old code base, you´ll find this an interesting job.

BASIS QUALIFICIATIONS:
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or 4+ year relevant work experience
• 2+ years professional experience in software development
• Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design
• Computer Science fundamentals in data structures
• Computer Science fundamentals in algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis
• Proficiency in, at least, one modern programming language such as C, C++, Java, or Perl
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
• Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
• Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project
• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs
