[KITlist-Tech] Platform Architect (South San Francisco, CA)

Our client in SSF, CA has immediate needs for a Platform Architect.

The candidate will share in the ownership of the overall technical direction of platform modules and will be responsible for taking the platform to the next level. He/She will be working with web/application servers, distributed caching layers, data access layers, enterprise messaging, web services, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Design and Development (60%)
* Work with business to understand and document requirements
* Architect completely new solutions and/or add incremental features to existing products
* Manage technical aspects of large complex projects in geographically distributed teams
* Ensure very high-quality technical deliverables (code and documentation) from the rest of the team
* Evaluate and compare alternatives for various components in the technology stack.
* Write unit tests and functional tests as required
* Work with testing group to develop regression test cases
* Create and introduce processes and technologies to solve pain points as encountered
* Must enjoy meeting challenging scalability and performance goals using innovative thinking.

2. Provide on-call support (20%)
* Debug and fix platform application defects as and when they get reported, whether in the development phase or in production.
* Provide off-hours emergency production support via an established rotating on-call schedule.

3. Leadership (20%)
* Demonstrate leadership qualities while working with cross-functional geographically distributed teams.
* Must be able to work with senior engineers and lead/learn from them in a friendly non-imposing manner
* Manage engineering task assignment (if required) and engineering resources allocation
* Mentor junior engineers
* Represent Platform Engineering team in cross functional meetings, as needed.
* Construct challenging development plans with stretch tasks and goals
Minimum Qualifications * Expert design and implementation skills in Object Oriented Programming and Java.
* Excellent knowledge of Core Java and J2EE technologies (Servlet/JSP/Filters, JNDI, JDBC, JMX, RMI, Java Web Services etc.)
* Expert level knowledge in writing heavily multi-threaded high performance servers and workflow software and integrating them to business logic processing layers
* Extensive experience with multi-threaded architectures, distributed caching, SOA Design Patterns, Authentication and Session management
* Experience with clustering solutions and software and distributed application level caching
* Experience in Scalability and Performance tuning of massively scalable websites
* Deep knowledge of TCP/IP and HTTP protocols and modern server level caching techniques
* Experience with DB supporting technologies like Data Access Layer or DB Connection pools
* Ability to troubleshoot and tune the performance of existing applications.
* Familiarity with web/app containers such as Web Logic, Web Sphere, Apache/Tomcat, Jboss etc.
* User level experience with relational databases such as Oracle or MySQL and PL/SQL
* Ability to think creatively and innovate solutions to problems
* Experience with JVM performance tuning or JVM internals is not required but desired
