Nominum is seeking a SeniorSecurity Research Analyst (to join the platform team. (Individual should have a background in malware analysis, ability in either OOP or strong scripting skills in Python or Perl


Location: Redwood City or San Francisco, CA



RESPONSIBILITIES:

� Analyze customer data to identify emerging threats

� Respond to customer requests for specific analyses such as targeted attacks

� Use research techniques and existing tools to discover and block sites used for malicious purposes such as botnet command and control, malware downloads, data harvesting, and phishing

� Supports all security-related products and services including identification of sites used for botnet command and control, malware downloads, spam and phishin

� Handle Support escalations requiring analyses of specific threats or potential false-positives

� Conduct research and data analysis to produce research used for presentations to customers, industry and press

� Identify and validate new automated techniques for identifying and classifying common mechanisms used by attackers and malware writers

� Evaluate 3rd-party data feeds and recommend new data sources that can contribute to Nominum���s existing detection capabilities



REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:

� Knowledge of malware and botnets including infection mechanisms, command and control structure, data harvesting techniques and other applications

� Strong understanding of TCP/IP stack including HTTP, SMTP, SSL and analysis tools such as wireshark and tcpdump

� Ability to leverage programming and scripting languages such as Perl, Python, Bash, Java or C to conduct analyses

� Expert knowledge of at least one programming and/or scripting language

� Familiarity and experience with data analytics and mining techniques

� Knowledge of and working experience with databases including MySQL and NonSQL

� Strong communication skills

� Bachelor�s degree in computer science or related fields

� Previous academic or industry security research experience

� Ability to work effectively with customers and internal teams such as Customer Support and Sales

� Strong analytical ability and desire to solve complex data-driven security problems

� Intellectual curiosity and desire to identify the root cause of emerging threats and protection mechanisms

� Focused on results and solving customer problems

DESIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:

� Knowledge of malware reverse engineering tools (e.g. IDA Pro, OllyDbg)

� 5+ years experience and domain knowledge in malware/vulnerability analysis

� Knowledge of P2P protocols

� Masters or advanced degree in computer science or related fields.
