Senior Linux Kernel Engineer needed for a long term direct client project. Client is stable and growing.


We are looking for experienced Senior Linux kernel engineer who has extensive experience in various areas of the Linux Kernel, capable of porting old kernel changes into newer Linux kernel, should assist in Bring-up, Device Drivers and Testing of production-quality system software for our purpose-built storage appliances.


Responsibilities:


• Own and drive parts of porting, debugging and testing changes present in the aging 2.6 Linux kernel to 


the latest 4.4 Linux kernel


• Develop software in C for our Linux-based appliance platform.


• Should be able to work independently as well as in team roles, including project leadership.


• You will be responsible for developing the Systems Software that powers Client's products.


• Define and implement requirements analysis, design, estimation, implementation, unit testing and 


maintenance for product and platform features.


• Participate in design discussions and design/code reviews.


Requirements:


• 10+ years industry experience with Linux kernel programming.


• Should have good knowledge on the work being done in www.kernel.org


• Should have mastery in a few specific areas (ex: net/ipmi/md/kernel..) of the Linux kernel and should 


be able to guide Client in choices and options during porting changes to the new kernel.


• Highly preferred if the individual has contributed changes/patches in various areas of the Linux kernel 


to upstream (www.kernel.org)


• Preferred if the individual has prior experience with device drivers, and programming hardware, but not 


a must.


• Solid understanding of Linux/Unix OS internals including locking and semaphores, multiprocessor and 


multithreaded architectures, inter-process communication, etc.


• Strong HW and SW troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; ability to create efficient solutions to 


complex problems including SW workarounds to HW bugs.


• Expert in C and scripting languages (Bash, Python, etc.) and the Linux/UNIX programming 


environment.


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.


Education:


• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent; Master of Science or higher preferred.
