Our new product Vantio supports over 30% of the internet traffic worldwide. We are embarking into a massive opportunity in big data and analytics due to present and future product development. Our firm has over 40 patents issued and pending and and our leadership team is determined to continue our innovation in technology and products at Nominum. Reporting to the Sr Director of Engineering, the Staff Data Engineer is responsible for architecture and development of our data infrastructure systems. This includes algorithms for ETL, normalization and analysis of our list data and DNS data.

The Staff Data Engineer will be responsible for building infrastructure and tools for the processing of Nominum's big data collections of DNS log data, used for identifying security threats, Distributed Denial of Service attack vectors and other deterministic information.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
⁃ Become an expert in our data sets, both raw DNS log data and our list data

⁃ Develop and implement the infrastructure to move large amounts of data in and out or our Hadoop cluster

⁃ Develop the tools to aid in the extraction of meaningful insights to the very large amount of data we work with

⁃ Work with our 3rd party list providers to clean and improve the accuracy of the data

⁃ Design and implementation of tools to analyze and automate the process of identifying threat vectors in DNS log data

⁃ Interact with the other development teams to determine the data required for our analytics platform

Education and/or Experience:
⁃ BA/BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field
⁃ 6+ years of experience in software design and development

⁃ Graduate level data analytics/research desirable 


QUALIFICATIONS:
⁃ Expertise with C++/Java, with knowledge of Python

⁃ Solid understanding of data warehousing systems, Hadoop, Hive, HDFS

⁃ An understanding of JSON and REST APIs a plus

⁃ Experience with any one of the following a plus (text mining, natural language processing, information retrieval, etc.)

⁃ Experience with network security and identifying network vulnerabilities a plus

⁃ Experience with web crawling/scraping technologies desirable

⁃ Knowledge of database systems (MySQL, NoSQL, etc.) a plus Nominum is still a private firm, so we offer outstanding compensation, lucrative stock options in our firm, excellent benefits and a chance for you to expand your technical scope and expertise.
