JOB DESCRIPTION - DIRECTOR - Accounting / Finance

Summary/Objective

The Director will serve as a senior level accounting and finance leader who is responsible for directing and executing accounting, financial planning, and reporting to a diverse portfolio of clients. Will contribute to overall strategic direction and operational activities within the firm and serve as a key advisor working with external clients overseeing their ongoing and project deliverables. Will collaborate with clients' executive management, lending institutions, shareholders, and other stakeholders by performing the following functions.

Essential Functions – Management Team

1. Lead, direct and develop accounting/finance professionals. Coach and empower junior staff to research answers in their efforts to support client needs.
2. Identify and create training materials and/or sessions that are beneficial to the MM consultants and their clients.
3. Interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign and direct work.
4. Manage employee performance including writing/delivering annual performance evaluations, coaching team members for success, addressing and solving employee concerns.
5. Evaluate and recommend strategic business opportunities.
6. Promote MM presence in the market and attract new clients by attending networking events and identifying and exploring sales and business development opportunities as may be appropriate.
7. Explore growth opportunities within existing clients.
8. Identify and research opportunities that come up in new and existing markets.
9. Create positive, long-lasting relationships with current and potential clients.
10. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions – Client Management

1. Oversee and direct accounting, finance, and other areas, such as treasury, audit, tax, investor reporting, and insurance activities for the clients' organizations.
2. Appraise the organization's financial position and issue periodic reports on organization's financial stability, liquidity, and growth to internal and external constituents.
3. Coordinate with tax accountants for timely and accurate reporting of income, sales/use, VAT and other tax requirements in all appropriate jurisdictions.
4. Possess a working knowledge to set up and manage all aspects of accounting including systems, consolidations, cost accounting, grants, and financial reporting including drafting financial statements and footnotes, in accordance with GAAP.
5. Oversee analysis of operational issues impacting functional groups and the whole entity and determine their financial impact.
6. Establish and maintain contacts with shareholders, financial institutions, and the investment community.
7. Oversee and direct the preparation and issuance of the client's Board package materials/presentations and annual report. Present to boards of directors as needed.
8. Communicate with coworkers, management, clients, and others in a superior, timely and professional manner.
9. Review preparation of monthly financials including journal entries, key statistics, various detailed analyses, budget fluctuations, account reconciliations, etc. to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP accounting.
10. Evaluate and determine appropriate accounting treatment for complex technical accounting and reporting matters in accordance with GAAP. Examples are revenue recognition, stock compensation expense and derivative accounting.
11. Review and/or support evaluation of cost accounting requirements, including product costing, overhead absorption, and inventory reserves.
12. Develop and maintain accounting processes to ensure compliance with system of internal controls for consistency and accuracy of recording financial information.
13. Prepare budgets, forecasts, and related revisions.
14. Review and/or prepare timely consolidation of subsidiaries, including foreign currency translation and properly recognizing foreign currency gains and losses
15. Drive the preparation for financial audit, tax compliance, and regulatory filings and coordinate the audit, tax, and reporting processes.

Required Education and Experience

1. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA designation is preferred. MBA a plus.
2. 10-15 years of Accounting/Finance business industry experience including a proven track record successfully leading, coaching, and mentoring a team of direct reports.
3. Experience in managing highly skilled work teams throughout a client's project lifecycle ensuring problems are resolved and deliverables are met.
4. Strong business acumen, analytical, problem solving skills, with the ability to provide visionary leadership and inspiration to teams.
5. Deep knowledge of industry experience in technology (ideally SaaS as well as hardware companies), medical device, and life science preferred including start-up companies.
6. Demonstrated success in identifying, initiating, and nurturing new or on-going business opportunities.
7. Background in consulting services, audit, or tax, preferably with a Big 4 accounting firm.
8. Experience and passion for working with startups.
9. Knowledge of two or more: QuickBooks Online and/or QuickBooks desktop, NetSuite, QAD, Dynamics, Intacct, Xero.
10. Familiarity with Bill.com, Expensify, Concur, ADP, Gusto a plus.
11. Experience with Google Suite preferred.
12. Superior Excel skills and proven ability to model full financials statement budgets and forecasts (integrated P&L, BS, and CF).
13. SEC Reporting experience.
14. Consolidations and international accounting experience.
15. Excellent planning, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
16. Attention to detail, organized and thorough with desire for continuous improvement.
17. Use of planning software such as Adaptive Insights or Anaplan a plus.

Travel

On-site work at client locations within the Bay Area and occasional travel is required for client work and consulting.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

Must be able to sit/stand for extended periods of time. Must have adequate manual dexterity and coordination to operate standard office equipment.
