Rocket Lawyer is seeking an experienced, self-sufficient and team-oriented software engineer to be a key member of the Platform team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for complex systems that demand the utmost level of accuracy, combined with a drive to scale and evolve a product. You will be building scalable internal services and public APIs that lets others interface with the Rocket Lawyer platform. You will be responsible for designing and managing the way data flows through the Rocket Lawyer Platform, and making sure the system behaves as expected.
The ideal candidate is an engineer who enjoys, and is good at, figuring out what the product should do—not just how the implementation should work. A lot of your time will be spent building robust frameworks, designing the right abstractions so everyone else can use the abstraction safely, and writing code in a way that anticipates its own bugs and fails safely.
Job Duties:
* Ensure the scalability and reliability of the service platform
* Write high throughput code in the right open-source language
* Interface with other teams to incorporate their requirements
* Operate like you're in a small, fast-paced startup
* Mentor other engineers

Experience and Skills:
* 3+ years platform engineering experience in high-growth technology environments
* BS or MS degree in Computer Science
* Extensive experience developing complex (concurrent distributed) systems
* Strong understanding of general ecommerce and platform requirements
* Strong command of Java.
* Experience with MySQL, HBase, Elastic Search, Zookeeper, Redis, RabbitMQ or similar technologies.
* Proficiency with data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
* Experience setting programming and architectural best practices.
* Must be proactive, self-sufficient, detailed, organized, and a team-player
* Demonstrated success working with small or cross-functional teams
* Experience working in an Agile/Iterative-style development group.
* Test-Driven development utilizing unit testing frameworks and automated testing.
* Experience building developer APIs is a plus
