Overview:

Field Application Scientist position covering mostly the Eastern/Midwest USA. Applicant should be residing in Eastern United States. Approximately 60-80% travel and may include occasional travel to Western part of USA. This Position reports to the Manager of Field Application Scientists.

Position Summary:

Field Applications Scientists/Specialists (FAS) assist customers with the use of the Affymetrix products and related technologies (QuantiGene and ViewRNA) through both remote and on-site customer interactions.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:



* Directly assist the field sales force to ensure financial targets are achieved

* Set up and deliver customer product demonstrations, in close interaction with local sales representatives

* Assess customer needs and supply specific solutions

* Monitor applications and troubleshooting trends and report these back to the direct Manager as well as to the R&D Department/ Product Manager/ Marketing Manager

* Provide marketing and R&D with trends in marketplace

* Present seminars, product workshops and on-site trainings at academic and industrial accounts on bDNA/QG/ViewRNA product portfolio

* Assist in the launch of new products and technologies (including identification of Beta testers, protocol design, needed data etc.)

* Provide in-house technical training as required

* Maintain records of customer communications and technical support functions through available tools

* Troubleshoot problems incurred by users, either remotely or by direct visit. Note: Technical Support bears the responsibility for standard troubleshooting of our products and will be involved with those customers of strategic importance

* Complies with company quality management systems, policies and procedures

* Additional duties/responsibilities according to business needs

Requirements:



* MS (Molecular Biology or Biological Sciences curriculum) with 6+ years related scientific experience, or PhD in Molecular Biology or Biological Sciences with 3+ years of related scientific experience

* Hands-on laboratory skills and experience in molecular biology, gene expression

* Experience with the Panomics/Branched DNA/ QuantiGene/ViewRNA technology and applications is a plus

* Experience in Sales or as a Field Application Specialist is a plus

* Experience with Affymetrix products is a plus

* Strong molecular biology techniques in research or clinical lab

* Strong organizational and personal skills a must

* Strong written and oral communication skills, demonstrated English fluency

* High energy- enjoys traveling and interacting with scientists

* Must be capable of working from home, the field, and a minimum of 60% travel

Level of Autonomy and Complexity:



* Understands customer needs at a broad and technical level; understands impact on other customers, projects and future sales at the account; requires and enjoys more complex interactions at various levels in the customers organization. Highly experienced in practice and theory in majority of supported assays and advanced troubleshooting of complex problems

* Demonstrates good judgment in applying appropriate actions; resolves issues of diverse scope requiring analysis and evaluation of factors

* Contributes to establishment of organization's objectives; error in judgment or failure to achieve objectives will have crucial impact and will require extensive resources to correct errors and achieve goals

* Receives little instruction and creates own methods for resolution of everyday tasks; receives general directions for new projects; work is assessed for achievement of goals. Able to manage complex customer issues independently.
