Job Title: Principal Software Engineer/Driver Architecture/WLAN Systems Software

Our client is a public company in Sunnyvale that is developing silicon and software for next generation WLAN products in all segments: mobility, consumer electronics, PCs, routers and more. Wi-Fi products are very rapidly growing, driven by our client´s innovation and technology leadership. To help sustain and accelerate this growth, they are looking for a Principal-level Embedded Networking Software Engineer to drive next generation features and architecture in our embedded WLAN software architecture.
In this role, you will be part of the WLAN Software team in Sunnyvale, CA.
Specific Duties include:
Develop WLAN protocols, features, control plane communication and data plane features.
Extend and enhance our device driver interfaces across one or more OSes.
Contribute to the ongoing architecture and evolution of our software components.
Plan, execute and lead software feature changes in areas like instrumentation and debugging to make the whole team more productive.
Occasionally work with Standards groups to secure our strategic interest in WLAN.
Working with customers to understand requirements, aligning direction and interests, providing technical leadership, innovating beyond the basic needs to generate differentiating and sticky IP.
Required Skills:
BS degree and 14 years, or an MS and 10 years or a PhD and 8 years of experience in embedded software development.
10+ years embedded systems C programming in networking systems and protocols.
Rock solid knowledge of L2 and L3 protocols (DHCP, ARP, TCP, NAT, Bridging, Routing, etc.)
5 years experience implementing complex embedded systems with either embedded CPU or redundant control processors.
5 years kernel/driver experience in Linux, NetBSD or embedded OSes is required.
Deep knowledge of OS interfaces, kernel data structures, performance tuning.
Experience on power saving techniques for embedded devices is highly desired
Must have experience with chip and board bringup, and hardware issues.
Prior experience with ARM, MIPS or other micro processor architecture and tools is required.
Some (5-10%) domestic or international travel may be required.
Desired Skills:
Knowledge of common industry standard buses including UART, SPI, SDIO PCI and USB.
Familiarity with current 802.11 protocols and Standards.
