About the Job
Akamai Technologies is looking for a Product Architect, to drive product design and development across various teams, for Media and CDN Engineering. In this role you will work across the organization with Product Management, Engineering, Professional Services, Service Performance, Customer Care, Finance and Legal toward a complete product design, a robust implementation and a smooth product launch.

The ideal candidate will have deep understanding of Internet technologies, ability to coherently translate customer needs to Engineering solutions, propensity to communicate across product stakeholders, and willingness to dive deep into system components.

This role provides an opportunity to define some very exciting products.

About the Team
The candidate will be part of the highly skilled Media and CDN engineering team that´s responsible for the software that runs Akamai´s world-wide network, one of the largest distributed systems in the world. Our software is a combination of many different technologies. It is a web server, a web client, a distributed caching engine, and much more. It provides a scalable, fault tolerant solution to web sites for handling their traffic, does HTTP HD streaming, determines the fastest route from point A to point B, hops around bottlenecks on the Internet, provides security, and provides a wide array of reporting abilities for our Network Operations Command Center and our customers.

By leveraging our global deployment of 70,000+ servers in 1,000+ networks, Akamai can uniquely solve problems and exceed fundamental limitations of traditional networking.

Responsibilities:
* Provide Product Management with critical feedback during the business case development process.
* Author design documents that cover all Engineering aspects of a new project starting from the ideation phase all the way to product launch. The design documents are focused on building targeted customer solutions with a high-degree of customer self-sufficiency.
* Work with engineering teams to identify system dependencies and coordinate implementations under tight product release schedules. Provide end-to-end guidance on a product including billing, reporting, provisioning, configuring, documentation, and testing.
* Assimilate existing Akamai technologies and best-practices to deliver a scalable, stable and secure product.
* Engage with customers to assist with integration during beta, to preview new products that are in the design or development phase and to gather ideas for enhancing existing solutions.

Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
* Minimum 8+ years of software engineering or equivalent industry experience.
* Minimum 3 years experience developing in Linux environments.
* Minimum 3 years experience with TCP/IP, HTTP and network programming.

Desired Qualifications
* Prior experience in leading a development team is a plus.
* Demonstrated skills in gathering requirements, organizing resources and assessing risk.
* Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail and problem solving / troubleshooting skills.
* Highly driven, hands-on, self-motivating, self-learning team player with a great can-do attitude.
* Strong written and oral communication skills.
* Strong organizational and analytical skills.
