About the Job
We are looking for an engineering leader with a deep understanding of software development and delivery, a passion for rapid development and deployment of your team´s software, the curiosity and drive to tackle substantial challenges, and a focus on improving the Internet for everyone. The successful candidate for this position will have a deep understanding of Internet mechanics, a track record of delivery of innovative software solutions at Internet speed as well as significant management experience. This person will lead teams that are focused on developing and optimizing a high performance web server (the EdgeServer) that handles 20% of the world-wide web traffic.
About the Team
The Media and CDN Engineering team is responsible for all of the software used to deliver, store, and manage digital media and website content via the Akamai network. This includes developing and maintaining our Live and On-Demand Streaming products that are an integral part of Akamai´s globally distributed network of 70,000+ EdgeServers that deliver media content for major events.
This person will get to lead teams consisting of Principal-level engineers, Architects, Dev-testers and Technical writers.
Responsibilities:
* Provide technical and managerial leadership to the EdgeServer team.
* Inspire and motivate a team of world-class engineers. Fuel its rapid growth by hiring outstanding talent.
* Nurture team innovation. Combine this with technical vision to develop the technical roadmap.
* Effectively prioritize while executing on the technical roadmap to meet the Media & CDN business requirements.
* Represent team milestones back to engineering and business management.
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
* Minimum 7 years experience in the software engineering or equivalent industry.
* Minimum 5 years experience developing C/C++ software in a distributed computing environment.
* Minimum 3 years experience managing a team's deliverables and performance.
Desired Qualifications
* Deep familiarity with TCP/IP, HTTP, Internet routing and security protocols.
* Familiarity with streaming media.
* Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
* The ideal candidate is goal-oriented, able to work on long-term projects without losing focus, and highly organized.
