POSITION – SAS DATA MINER
DURATION – 6 MONTHS +
LOCATION – SAN JOSE, CA

JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for contractors with data mining skills/expertise using base SAS and preferably, SAS Enterprise Miner. They should have a solid understanding of predictive modeling, experience building Logistic Regression models, Decision Trees and proficiency in SQL and macros.

The SAS Data Miner is responsible for applying advanced statistical techniques to build predictive models that model customer behavior to improve the effectives of both direct mail and digital marketing campaigns. The Analyst will utilize various datasets including campaign, transactional, behavioral, Web, and demographic data to optimize marketing campaign profitability and provide actionable customer insights.

This role will require hands-on intermediate level skill in SAS, SPSS, or other modeling applications to define and score unique customer segments within a prospect relational database. The Analysts will experiment with both traditional modeling techniques such as regression and decision trees as well as modern techniques such as neural networks, ensembles and gradient boosting to drive model performance and marketing profitability.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Data mining: Analyzing existing customer information from various data sources to enable response modeling, segmentation, profitability, conversion modeling or two-stage modeling
• Coding, testing and implementing strategies within the deployment environment, ensuring that the proper controls and signoffs are in place to manage/monitor model performance
• Analyzing large pools of data to discover trends, patterns, or correlations that will assist marketing directors in making better business decisions
• Developing, evaluating and tracking the effectiveness of marketing campaigns
• Working closely with the Sales/Marketing team to understand the end-to-end process and incorporate the perspective of subject matter experts into the acquisition strategies
• Identifying process improvements to streamline data collection/management and analytics
• Building presentations to summarize and present key messages to senior management sponsors
• Reviewing dashboards with Marketing Directors and ensuring understanding of results and goals achievement

BASIC REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelors Degree in any analytic field (business, math, economics, finance, statistics, science, engineering) with equivalent experience
• Intermediate knowledge in the strengths and limitations of statistical models and analyses in various business applications, ability to evaluate and communicate the uncertainty in the results.
• 5 +years of experience with conducting analytical projects in data mining, quantitative analysis, statistical modeling, machine learning, or other relevant field.
• Beginner SQL and functional SAS skills
• Analyze complex data sets, relentless customer focus, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and attention to detail

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
• Masters Degree in any analytic field (business, math, economics, finance, statistics, science, engineering) with equivalent experience in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field.
• Expert SQL and SAS knowledge
• Experience with SAS Enterprise Miner
