Primary Responsibility:
1. Primary and Secondary Responsibilities:
a) Analog/mixed signal IC design.
b) Review of design and layout work of team members.
c) Team management and performance reviews of design team members.
d) Design spec creation and management given a product definition.
e) Design schedule creation and management.
f) Resource selection and hiring.
g) Team budgeting and financial forecasting of team expenses.
h) Work with management team on creation of design strategy and product development strategy.
i) Mentor and develop IC design skills of future new employee hires.
j) Interface directly with customers in Asia to firm up design requirements and performance/cost targets..
2. Complex Tasks:
a) The candidate must be both and individual contributor (IC designer) and a manager as this person creates and establishes the team.
b) This person will need to work effectively in a remote situation and must be able to find quick resolution to unforeseen roadblocks.
c) The candidate will have to be able to evaluate, choose and select circuits opologies to meet product objectives
3. Projects and Deliverables:
a) The deliverable will be an audio IC that meets the customer's schedule and performance goals while meeting our cost of build targets.
b) He or she will be solely responsible for making the necessary design decisions and tradeoff required to meet an end performance, schedule and cost goals
Qualifications:
1. Required Basic Qualifications:
a) Creating, building and managing a design team that designs audio ICs targeted for consumer electronics.
b) Products could include audio power amplifiers, line drivers, audio subsystems, digital audio PWM processors and digital audio signal processors.
c) This candidate should have a strong record of accomplishment in analog, mixed signal IC design. In addition, a successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record of building design teams and managing a design team to stated performance objectives.
d) Candidates should have actively participated in entire design cycles starting from spec definition to working silicon for multiple designs.
e) Candidates should posses the ability to translate a high level system spec to a design spec and circuit topologies.
f) Working knowledge of mixed signal EDA design flows including cadence, SPICE is required.
g) Experience in design-for-cost objective is required. Fluency in Mandarin Chinese is required
2. Management/Organizational Skills:
a) This person has to be able to build and lead a design team focused with minimal supervision.
b) As the design manager, a successful candidate will be able to lead the design team to achieve the desired performance and cost targets of the project in the timeline required by the customer.
c) This person must be a self-starter, and be able to dynamically prioritize tasks based off of an end-objective.
d) This person must be able to work independently, and as needed, assemble and lead flex teams of cross-functional disciplines as needed to resolve design issues.
e) Management responsibilities such as resource scheduling, planning, budgeting, hiring, performance reviews and project management will be required.
3. Team and People Skills:
a) This person should be able build a small design team, develop and train employees.
b) Candidate must have the following of future team members and be able to drive a team to strong results.
c) This candidate should have good English and Mandarin communication skills and be able to effectively communicate objectives and strategy with local management in China, management in the US and directly with the customer as needed.
4. Additional Preferred Qualifications
a) Product definition experience.
b) Design knowledge in the audio field is a plus.
c) Previous design experience in consumer electronics or high volume applications.
d) Knowledge of class D high power switching amplifier along with knowledge of audio amplifier topologies.
e) Knowledge in audio/DSP algorithm development is a plus.
f) Working knowledge of hardware/firmware co-design (such as when using an 8051 microcontroller) is preferred.
g) Prior experience working on or leading remote teams is preferred. Ability to work in the lab for initial debug of silicon, debug of customer problems etc. is preferred. Working knowledge of product and test engineering and implications to design is preferred
