Department Overview
The Data Loss Prevention (DLP) product suite is key to Symantec's vision of information-centric security. We are looking for an experienced software engineer who can take a feature and run with it from definition to design to implementation and delivery. You will be working in a small team, participating in an agile development process that includes iterative development milestones, daily scrums, maintaining an iteration and product backlog, lots of unit testing, and working closely with QA, documentation and product management throughout the lifecycle of a feature. You would participate in regular design and code reviews, refactor code as needed to meet evolving design standards and participate or lead engineering process improvements as well as work on cross functional projects and mentor other engineers.

• Participate in system design and architecture decisions.
• Refactor code as needed to meet evolving design decisions.
• Collaborate with other team members to evolve development processes
• Work with customers and product management on identifying and refining enhancements
• Own a feature end to end

Qualifications
• 8+ years of experience as a Network Engineer
• Good design and architecture skills and experience with large, complex software solutions
• Desire to work with Product Managers, Professional Services, and directly with customers to help design and develop products that are successful in the marketplace.
• Experience working with network gateway products, MTAs and Proxy Servers.
• Solid understanding of TCP/IP.
• Strong object-oriented development skills.
• Experience with Java/C++

Pluses:

• Experience with scaling an application to handle the ever-increasing needs of its customers
• Experience with profiling and tuning of applications for performance and scalability
• Experience with network traffic generation tools
• Experience with RDBMS, such as Oracle
• Comfort with Agile development and test driven development
• Solid understanding of software security principles preferred.
