Database/Platform Software Engineer
We are looking for a Database/Platform Software Engineer who will be designing and developing software for a large-scale cloud-based service. The candidate will be responsible for distributed relational and NoSQL database design, tuning and database related middleware development. Responsibilities include:
• Translating functional requirements into conceptual and detailed designs.
• Providing estimates for development effort.
• Implementing proof of concept, prototypes and production-grade software.
• Creating unit and acceptance tests.
• Coordinating sign-off from QA/Test.
• Automating deployment.
• Assisting Operations and Support staff in trouble-shooting software issues as well as implementing bug fixes
The following experience and skills are required:
• 7+ years of experience in designing and developing software systems.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in database design, data-centric applications, database replication and performance tuning.
• Hands on experience and clear understanding of high volume data traffic deployment.
• Strong experience with SQL programming and development experience in databases such as MySQL or other databases.
• Strong experience in SQL coding, stored procedures, query optimization, and schema design.
• Understanding of database transactions, ACID properties, data caching (both DB and App level) and O/R mapping.
• Prior experience in performance tuning, scalability issues, clustering, and reliability concerns.
• Strong experience in object-oriented design and implementation.
• Experience designing & programming complex stored procedures, views and data aggregation/manipulation through table joins/queries.
• Experience with using and writing REST based WEB Services (JSON, XML) and interfacing with a database via JDBC, Spring Data, etc.
• Experience in Java with multithreading (concurrent library), garbage collection, Spring Framework.
• Proficient at problem diagnosis, troubleshooting and providing solutions.
• Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to communicate effectively with other members of a team.
• B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent from a reputable university.
The following experience and skills are desired:
• Hands on experience with NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB, Apache Cassandra, Apache Hbase, Hadoop design and implementation.
• Experience interfacing with an LDAP database and creating the schema for an LDAP database.
• Experience developing products using Apache and Jetty on a Linux/Unix system.
• Experience with object-relational persistence paradigms (e.g. Hibernate).
• Previous experience with networking and network management systems is preferred.
• Working knowledge and experience participating in agile software development process (SCRUM methodology, version control, continuous integration, and issue tracking).
