Systems Engineer - Security and Hardening Expert

Client is building and managing an exciting suite of cloud based applications including digital media and marketing tools, online conferencing , social collaboration solutions, and rich applications for creating documents, websites, presentations and tables. You will be a key member of the Site Reliability Engineering team, which is responsible for designing, implementing, architecting, and supporting the infrastructure and cloud based products that run on it. The site reliability team works closely with product development, quality engineering and other product groups to agilely release new products, operational enhancements and bug fixes to that infrastructure.


Responsibilities
• Define, test and implement server and database hardening policies across Microsoft technology stack (Windows Server 2008 / SQL Server 2008)
• Implement server and database monitoring to ensure compliance to application and system security standards
• Develop tools, operational enhancements and automated solutions to reduce manual administration tasks and improve application up-time for complex and large-scale SaaS applications
• Investigate and resolve complex and multi-faceted issues, spanning the entire technology stack
• Drive continuous improvement to supported applications, in areas such as security, monitoring, task automation, continuous integration, deployments and performance tuning
• Collaborate and coordinate with software engineering and product management teams to improve operability and supportability of critical customer facing SaaS applications (DevOps)
• Maintain up-to-date documentation on security policies, processes and standard operating procedures/run-books


Requirements
This position requires strong technical, communications and problem-solving skills and the ability to engage and interact with numerous external teams. The ideal candidate would be a blend of top notch system administrator and developer. If you possess a strong aptitude for troubleshooting and a passion for automating administration tasks, then this is the position for you. Candidates should be able to demonstrate deep competency in most or all of the requirements listed below:
• 5+ years of system administration experience in Microsoft Windows (Server 2003/2008, IIS Manager), Microsoft SQL Server(2005/2008), storage systems (SAN and NAS), load balancers and virtualized environments (JVM, VMware, vSphere, Amazon AWS).
• 2+ years of server and database hardening experience
• 2+ years of experience in security focused administration role on Microsoft Windows 2008 and SQL Server 2008
• 1+ years of Microsoft SQL Server database administration (enough practical knowledge to help define database hardening standard, test security changes and implement changes on database)
• Experience with networking concepts, protocols and technologies
• Strong experience with designing, deploying and maintaining monitoring solutions such as Splunk, Nagios, Zabbix, Cacti, SCOM, etc
• Familiarity with information security and audit compliance, such as SOC2/SOX/SAS70
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating the ability to effectively convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Excellent information management practices, such as thorough documentation, usage of wikis, blogs and other collaboration tools
• Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently


The following requirements are not strictly required, but are preferred:
• BA/BS or higher in a technical field
• Demonstrable technology experience with administration of Microsoft SQL Server 2008, MySQL and Linux
• Experience supporting large-scale SaaS based applications and databases
• Experience with networking technologies such as TCP/IP, DHCP, TFTP, VLAN, QoS and VoIP
• Knowledge of ITIL process framework.
