Job Description

The Supervisor of Software Engineering will have responsibility for a team consisting of 4 - 10 Software Engineers tasked with developing and supporting their team´s suite of software products. This supervisory position is expected to have a high-level of tactical involvement in the day-to-day activities of the team. Additionally, this individual will contribute strategically to the long-term direction of their team within the larger IT organization.

Specific Responsibilities:



•Leadership Responsibilities
◦Oversee technical application support for Field and/or Corporate facing applications.
◦Responsible for ensuring both technically and operationally sound designs.
◦Responsible for interacting with business owners and department counterparts to refine requirements, formulate acceptable delivery timelines and discuss tactical and strategic objectives.
◦Responsible for mentoring and training technical and functional staff.
◦Ability to take very complex ideas and convey them in terms that are understood by Users, Clients, Business Analysts, Developers and Senior Management.
◦This person must be able to quickly assimilate information and make sound decisions.
•Process and Procedure Management
◦Recommend changes in development, maintenance and system standards and procedures.
◦Take initiative to implement best practices and methods that inform and guide the delivery excellence for the overall engineering and operations teams.
◦Participate in and/or develops policies, guidelines, practices and methods that inform and guide the direction of overall production support of supported applications with the appropriate due diligence.
•Resource Management
◦Deploy resources effectively and efficiently by participating actively in resource management processes.
◦Monitor and manage the scheduling of all work assignments for the team.
◦Ensure delivery dates are met with high-quality, on budget deliverables.
◦Provide appropriate counseling, coaching, and career path planning to each individual on the team (e.g. performance reviews, development plans, etc.).
•Customer Service/Support Responsibilities
◦Employ effective judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criterion for obtaining results.
◦Assist manager/director in establishing Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and ensures that all applications that are running in various environments meet or exceed stated SLAs.
◦Interact frequently with team, business owners and users to maintain a good working relationship with the user community and other partners.
◦Work on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various tangible and intangible factors.
◦Receive assignments in the form of objectives and establishes goals to meet those objectives.
◦Act independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments.
◦Use professional concepts to solve complex problems in creative and effective ways.
◦Evaluate proposed initiatives and provides feedback.
◦Interact with customers and management on technical design issues and resolutions.
◦Develop and implement system designs and technical specifications.
◦Architect complex solutions for project/production issues and defines relationships between systems.
◦Oversee Production Support tasks and be escalation point of contact for business on production issues.
◦May conduct code reviews and leads design reviews to ensure compliance.
◦May prepare code migration documentation and works with release team in migrating code to QS & other environments as needed.
◦Provide on-call support for production systems on a rotating schedule as needed.
◦Escalation point of contact for on-call technical issues.

Qualifications:



•BA/BS degree or equivalent experience in programming computer applications required.
◦5+ Years of IT Experience with BA/BS Degree required.
◦7+ Years of IT Experience without BA/BS Degree required.
•PeopleSoft Developer Certification preferred.
•Minimum 3+ years of experience in PeopleSoft Applications.
•3+ years previous software development experience.
•2+ years of management experience.
•Strong de-bugging skills required
•Experienced in full life cycle of software development; requirements analysis, design, development, testing, implementation.
•Experience in creating software architecture documents or other design artifacts.
•Understanding of object-oriented analysis and design techniques.
•Familiarity with process modeling techniques.
•Familiarity with UML Modeling (Activity Diagram, Class Diagram, Sequence Diagram, Collaboration Diagram, Use Case Diagram, Deployment Diagram, etc.)
•Desire to work in team-oriented environment.
•Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
•Experience leading a small team.
•Ability to follow company standards for documentation, GUI design and programming.
•Strong analytical skills for effective problem solving.
•Ability to grasp issues quickly and make educated, critical decisions.
