Position: Release Manager (QA Testing Manager; eCommerce Applications; Global Retail IT Experience)
Duration: 6 months Contract to Hire
Location: San Francisco, CA

The requirements and responsibilities for this role include (but are not limited to) the following:
•To act as a gatekeeper to the retail application production environment, ensuring consistency in policies and operational procedures, release testing and production validation
•To act as a subject matter expert in release management and help the technical teams to identify, create andor implement processes or tools to efficiently manage and improve the releases of code
•To manage the omni-channel retail QA team and ensure continual test process improvements as part of software release testing
•To ensure quality rigor at all phases of a project and audit the phase exitacceptance criteria per organizational benchmark
•To formulate, publish and track the global retail applications e.g. retail ERP, Workforce management, POS, reporting applications, eCommerce etc. release calendars ensuring timely software upgrades and simultaneously aligning with the other medium and large scale changes being implemented in the global retail landscape
•Efficiently track the software defects, change requests, new development requests, additional development tasks, risks, software deployment and packaging
•Assist the technical and business teams to get a Go/No Go from all stakeholders on a planned software upgrade
•Provide inputs and oversee application cutover activities and collaborate with the technical, infrastructure and business teams to put software releases into production
•Ensure process adherence for application release certifications for projects/bug fixes/upgrades
•Manage the global omni-channel retail IT QA teams including planning and resourcing for release management activities for both internal and external (vendor) resources
•Review QA artifacts e.g. test plans, test strategy, high level test scenarios for global omni-channel retail applications


Qualifications:
•10-12 years of experience in multiple Information Technology areas in Retail industry with at last 4 years in eCommerce technologies e.g. Hybris, ATG, WebSphere etc.
•8+ years of experience in release management for tier 1 retail ERP such as Oracle retail/SAP IS retail etc. (Tier 1 will be the future platform)
•5+ year of experience in managing periodic releases for eCommerce sites and web based applications in waterfall/agile model

•Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computers or equivalent
•4-5 years of experience in software release management in retail and eCommerce domains
•Strong knowledge and exposure on different project methodologies like Agile, Waterfall
•Knowledge on software configuration management and version control processes/tools
•Acquaintance with the QA processes and test management tools (preferably Quality Center)
•Experience creating detailed application release calendars
•Ability to build and manage relationships effectively across business and technology teams
•Strong project management skills preferred
•Proven track record of managing large, geographically diverse technical teams
•Strong verbal and written communication skills - ability to present and discuss technical information to technical/non-technical audiences including C-level communication

•This position has been created to support an IT Director, by taking over some of his major responsibilities. This position is supporting Global Multichannel Retail IT, and this division is a fundamental pillar the business strategy, and the company structure. Global Multichannel Retail IT is looking for a Global Retail IT Application Release Manager to strengthen the release management processes and policies for all global/regional retail applications.
•The position will be responsible for overseeing the release management activities including new application implementation, upgrades and major/minor releases for all global retail applications, this includes but is not limited to release planning and communication, improving the release management processes and emulating IT policies to ensure that the software upgrades are available to the end users in a timely manner and with a quality that does not compromise business operations nor conflicts with any ongoing or transformational and operational projects.
•The position requires both managerial and technical skills and a responsible individual who can operate at an advisory level consistently monitoring, auditing, enforcing and optimizing the established release management processes and also act as a liaison between product vendors, functional teams, technical teams and all other internal/external stakeholders.
•The candidate in this role MUST HAVE a background in and experience with retail; this is an absolute requirement.
•They also must have experience with Quality Assurance automated tools (versus just manual QA).
•Experience in the ecommerce, multichannel space is highly desirable.
•The candidates need to be very independent, self-reliant, self-motivated, and enthusiastic. There will be a large managerial aspect in this position, so experience in a managerial role is a must! The candidate will be joining a team with about 5-6 other managers, and supporting a team of 20+ workers, some who sit overseas in India, and the others here in the U.S.
•The candidate needs to have the ability to maintain flexible working hours, as communication with colleagues in India will be necessary at times.
