[KITlist-Tech] DevOps Engineer (Mountain View, CA)

Please direct your responses to: tricia@bluejeans.com

We are revolutionizing video collaboration with Simple, Scalable, Cross-Platform and Multi-party conferencing from any device. We're changing the way communications look, act and feel and we'd love your expertise and enthusiasm on the team. At Blue Jeans Network, our mission is to make video communications as easy and pervasive as audio communications, enabling more effective collaboration at work, at home and on the road.

Our Network Operations team is responsible for everything from hardware to operating system to automation to network traffic engineering. There are no limits or barriers. Everyone pitches in to run the world class infrastructure that delivers the Blue Jeans Network conferencing platform globally. The ideal candidate is interested in "all things ops" with a creative attitude towards problem solving. A sys admin and network engineering background is key to success in this position.
Required experience includes:
• Linux and Windows administration
• Network engineering that includes both LAN and WAN design, not just maintenance
• MySQL, MongoDB, or other database expertise (you name it, we probably use it)
• Experience using Amazon EC2 enough to have a strong opinion

Ideally you can answer most of these questions:
• What's an availability zone?
• RAID-5 or RAID-10?
• Why does Munin not scale?
• What's worse, jitter or latency?
• How can you use 95p to get free transit? (not that we've ever done that)

What about the bonus skills?
• Working knowledge of Chef is a bonus, puppet or any other would help
• Experience with python or ruby
• Extensive knowledge of H.323, SIP, XMPP, and any other buzzworthy technology in video / voice conferencing

What would a typical day be like?
• On-call rotates, just wanted to get that out of the way
• Ops works closely with the dev team and product management, very closely, so you must play nice with others
• Everyone juggles long-term projects with real-time monitoring and triage. How? Communication… so excellent communication is needed all the time

Why Blue Jeans is THE PLACE to be?
We have a fun and collaborative work culture—BJN was voted #3 'Best Place to Work' in the Bay Area in 2012. We live and breathe a can-do attitude with the passion to "get stuff done" with quality and flare. We have fun, eat well, play music and love to compete in table tennis and pool. At Blue Jeans Network we´ve built a cloud-based platform uniquely designed for all types of interactive video communications. We recently raised $49M from top venture capitalists: Accel, NEA and NorWest. Our team is composed of rock stars from a blend of industries: broadband networks, video, media and SaaS. But we don't just have a strong team: every one of us is passionate about interoperable, cloud-based HD video and its impact on how the world works. We all think the future is now.
