In addition to generating time, Symmetricom products distribute and apply time, enabling a range of critical operations - from controlling or synchronizing the flow of voice, video, and data throughout communication networks, to securing mobile communications in warzones or facilitating complex navigation systems in space.
Symmetricom seeks a strong, hands-on Embedded Software Development Manager for its R&D organization based in Boulder, CO.
Reporting to the Director, Software Engineering, s/he will direct the SW development activities and manage a team of software engineers.
In addition to managing the software development team, other key responsibilities include:
• Working with and supporting the Product Management team to determine and define appropriate responses to customer requirements
• Identifying solution capability requirements; and then developing the solutions and capabilities that conform fully to these requirements
• Directing multiple software development initiatives ensuring timely delivery of complex software development projects as high quality products on-time/within budget.
• Attracting, mentoring, and retaining talent in the technology organization by developing the technical competence of the software team in key areas of strategic importance
• Coordinating staff resource assignments for multiple projects
• Representing the software development function in interactions with external parties including vendors and customers
• Performing leadership and administrative details including budgets, status reports, coaching and performance evaluations.

Job Requirements
Key qualifications include:
• BSEE/BSCE or MSEE/MSCE (a plus)
• US Citizen or Permanent Resident
• 5+ years of experience managing a technical function, with at least 3 years of responsibility for developing a total solution and interacting with other key business functions within the organization
• Experience managing and directing a team of development engineers in a manner that grows their effectiveness, efficiency, and suitability to technology and career goals
• In-depth knowledge of software development, testing and support practices
• Knowledge of C, C++, Java, Scripting, IDEs, Relational Databases, GUIs, LINUX, XML, Web Services, Distributed Computing Architectures
• In-depth technical knowledge of system layering: device drivers, real-time systems, fault-tolerant systems, and timing protocols (e.g., NTP, PTP)
• Understanding of system integration and performance analysis
• Proven ability to communicate on both business and technical levels
Technical qualifications must include:
• Hands on experience developing embedded systems
• System level programming knowledge in Unix/Linux environment
This position absolutely requires a detail oriented person who is driven, energetic and focused on product development schedule and product quality. Qualified candidates must have a "go for it", results oriented, hands on approach.
