Responsibilities Include:
- Design, deploy and maintain virtual infrastructure solutions based on VMware across multiple operating systems
- Administer, maintain and troubleshoot Storage Area Networks (preferably Dell EqualLogic)
- Suggest and implement best practices related to the virtual and physical infrastructure
- Provide support in performance monitoring, back-ups, reporting, problem identification, management, and resolution
- Manage storage activity such as planning, installation, operation and maintenance of storage systems, switches and other hardware.
- Collaborate with other infrastructure engineering personnel to assess near-term and long-term capacity needs
- Create and maintain documentation related to system configuration, application diagrams, processes, and service records
- Provide input for disaster recovery and security plans
- Manage IT projects of varying scope (virtual infrastructure as well as other IT related projects)
- Participate in on-call and escalation duties
- Serve as system administrator on Linux and Windows servers
Scope
Work is project-oriented and actual tasks must be defined by employee. Understands company goals and practices and applies them when resolving a variety of problems. Receives only general instructions on new work. Uses judgment and creativity and sound technical knowledge to obtain and recommend solutions. May interface with senior management to convey information.
Required Skills:
- Expert on VMware, blade servers and SANs: Including Architecture, Deployment, DR, Backup
- Storage design and administration experience (iSCSI/DAS)
- Microsoft and/or VMware certifications
- Experience with Linux
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to interact directly and autonomously with business users
Preferred skills:
- Formal project management training/PMP Certification
- Working knowledge of IT Best Practices Methodologies (ITIL/ITSM)
Background
- BS in Computer Science or related field; or equivalent experience
- 3-5 years of hands on experience working with VMware
