Symmetricom is seeking an experienced Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join the San Jose-based software engineering team to design and develop embedded software for the Symmetricom family of precise time and frequency instruments.
The Senior Embedded Software Engineer is responsible for:
* Designing and developing device drivers and software for timing and synchronization equipment.
* Porting device drivers and software libraries to different platforms.
* Interfacing with customers occasionally to understand, reproduce, resolving issues and providing workarounds
* Reviewing software designs and providing feedback comments
* Participating in hardware design reviews and making recommendations to help improve software performance
* Working across disciplines and multiple product development sites to ensure software integration on product platforms
Essential Qualifications include:
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent in CS, Computer Engineering, EE or Physics
* 5+ years of software design experience in C/C++ with embedded systems emphasis
* 3-4 years writing embedded/real-time software for Linux-based systems
* In-depth understanding of device driver, embedded and real-time software concepts
* Demonstrated experience with hardware subsystems and hardware/software interface
* Hands-on experience with embedded software debug tools
* Excellent communication, writing and organizational skills
Additional Desired Qualifications
* Experience working on packet network time synchronization protocols, such as IEEE-1588/PTP and NTP
* Prior experience developing embedded system products for commercial/enterprise markets
* Wireless communication systems and networks
* Network security protocols such as Radius, SSH, IPSEC and others
* Hardware / Software partitioning definition
