[KITlist-Tech] Senior Technical Writer (San Carlos, CA)

SEVEN Networks, Inc. is currently seeking a Senior Technical Writer. Our Senior Technical Writer will own the product documentation function and be responsible for writing system-level and detailed descriptions of SEVEN software products, administrative guides and end-user manuals. The position requires the Senior Technical Writer to work closely with product management, software engineering, architect, operations, and service delivery teams.



Major Duties & Responsibilities:

Work closely with software engineers and operations staff to produce software documentation, including technical overview, installation, configuration and administration guides, API reference manuals, user guides, and online help systems
Review existing documentation and develop the overall strategy for documenting new releases of the SEVEN platform and its related applications and software components. Initiate the creation of new technical documents as needed
Design and develop uniform documentation for all SEVEN products including administrators' guide, end-user guide, SDKs
Actively contribute to the creation and enforcement of a standard terminology for all SEVEN software components
Establish and drive a uniform review process for all SEVEN technical documentation across geographically distributed development teams
Proactively manage documentation projects by creating and communicating documentation plans and schedules, tracking and reporting documentation status, identifying and working with management and various teams to remove roadblocks and escalate issues as needed


Skills & Experience Required:

Demonstrated technical aptitude. Candidate must be able to pick up technical subject matter quickly and ask the questions needed to determine the relevant aspects of a technical product
Minimum of 10 years experience, with 5+ years recently writing for software products at a Senior Technical Writer level and for a variety of audiences: system administrators, end users, developers and service delivery
Experience developing Architecture Overviews for distributed systems with multiple layers of APIs and Connectors
Experience documenting APIs, SDKs, and/or development framework
Experience with TCP/IP, HTTP and IP datagrams
Experience in technical illustration for items such as flow diagrams and server architecture
Enthusiastic, highly organized self-starter who is able to work with limited supervision, thrives in an ambiguous environment and works well under aggressive schedules
Knowledge of software development practices and tools
Proven ability to quickly develop rapport with engineers and remote engineering teams
Ability to identify and communicate risks before they affect project deadlines or deliverable quality
Thorough understanding of technical terminology
Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a technical field or communications, journalism, or English. Equivalent industry experience acceptable should a degree in a technical subject be possessed
