Scope of Position
As the Senior Systems Engineer for Vocera Communications, you will lead the IT team in providing quality corporate IT services. This position will be primarily responsible for helping to design, implement and maintain the server and network infrastructure. The Vocera IT team utilizes a wide range of technologies to provide IT services so we are seeking an engineer with a broad range of skills and experience.

This candidate should have a solid understanding of IT best practices with a focus on stability, security, performance and capacity. We are looking for a service oriented individual with deep technical skills that can help build a highly effective IT team and take ownership of the IT infrastructure. Based at our headquarters in San Jose, CA, you will work with the IT Manager to develop an effective IT program in a start-up environment.

Responsibilities
-Work with IT team members to scope, develop and implement strategic technical solutions
-Install, maintain and update Windows systems, including hardware and software, in an environment requiring 24x7 support
-Review enterprise performance data to proactively propose and implement improvements to the IT infrastructure
-Investigate and assist in providing solutions to improve overall monitoring, trending and management of the infrastructure
-Escalate and communicate service impacting issues and potential problems proactively
-Work with and provide communications to other IT team members to ensure cross-functional awareness
-Maintain documentation on processes, procedures and diagrams related to the IT environment.
-Monitor all appropriate system and security logs
-Provide 2nd level support to internal customers and Helpdesk staff
-Manage the telephony environment

Skill & Experience
-Bachelors in computer science or equivalent experience
-Preferred certifications: MCSE, VCP, ITIL
-Must have at least 6 years experience of managing a Windows Server 2003/2008 environments
-Experience with Active Directory strategies and deployments, including daily management tasks
-Strong knowledge and experience with VMware virtualization technologies
-Experience with Exchange 2007 and replication technologies
-Experience with Blackberry Enterprise Server and other mobile technologies
-Excellent understanding of LAN/WAN network infrastructures
-Understanding of TCP/IP networking and ability to diagnose problems beyond the server environment
-Experience with Disaster Recovery planning and implementation
-Experience managing Antivirus/Spyware, spam reduction and patch management tools
-Experience managing SAN/NAS based storage solutions
-Experience with disk and tape backup applications and hardware solutions
-Experience with database and web hosting technology; MS SQL & IIS -Experience with monitoring tools to identify potential failures, and support forensic investigation.
-Support of corporate telephony environment; CUCM, IPCCX, Unity
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks within a dynamic environment
-Available for after-hours work as required
-Required to share 24/7 on-call rotation responsibilities
