Job Responsibilities

This position is for the day-to-day operation and management of materials analysis and testing at Synaptics. Present equipment includes optical microscopes, scanning electron microscope, optical measurements, infrared spectrometer, chemical etching and reactive ion etching. The job requires the knowledge and judgment to determine the analytic methods necessary to solve real problems. Responsibilities will include:

· Develop new materials and processes for Synaptics´ future products
· Support existing manufacturing processes
· Advise Manufacturing Engineering in selection of materials and processes
· Document analysis and measurement methods for standardization across worldwide labs
· Support Platform and Product Engineering with materials modeling
· Manage equipment and laboratory supplies and periodic service through contractors

More experienced or capable candidates may be considered for additional responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

· Ph.D. (or B.Sc. with equivalent work experience) in Material Science or related physical science, such as chemistry or applied physics
· Broad technical experience is essential. Experience in some or all of the following areas are necessary:
· Human computer interaction
· Sensing systems
· Polymers
· Thin films
· Nanotechnology/Nanofabrication
· Displays
· Adhesives
· Coatings
· Analytical techniques including SEM, EDX, stress/strain, optical microscopy, spectroscopy
· Excellent communication skills

Desired Qualifications

· Track record of publications and presentations
· Experience with experimental design
· Experience with process engineering
· Knowledge or experience of gas handling and chemical disposal methods and regulations
