#1386 - Technical Marketing Engineer

The Technical Marketing Engineer (TME) will represent the Marketing organization on Technical Marketing aspects of assigned product line(s) throughout the product life cycle. The TME will be involved in working with established and potential business development partners, interoperability testing, product evangelism, and work closely with the product marketing team and the sales organization to assist in maximizing penetration of target market segments. The TME will develop, author, publish and deliver technical product information that enhances the field sales and support teams´ ability to sell the Harmonic product line and software applications. This position will report to the Director of Technical Marketing but will also spend significant time interacting with the Marketing and Engineering organizations.

Required Job Skills:

-Ability to conduct hands-on testing and document interoperability between Harmonic products and 3rd party applications, servers, switches providing the sales team with best-practices and whitepapers on how to best use our product.
-Serve as a technical interface for the Product Management organization with the Systems Engineering team, sales representatives, business development and channel managers.
-Conduct analysis and publish information on configuring, tuning, and optimizing Harmonic products and software applications.
-Provide expert input on new product development issues by injecting a Customer/User perspective into the process.
-Provide supplemental technical expertise to the Field in planning, installing, and supporting Harmonic products. Broad knowledge of storage, servers, switches, codecs, transcoding, applications and topology a must.
-May become the technical focal point within Product Management for assigned high-profile customer technical pre and post-sales issues relating to our products.
-Provide a source for reliable technical information and advice on products. Must be able to define in detail features and functions required for current or new product.
-Develop and executes Performance Benchmarks on Harmonic products as well as competing products. This analysis will also include determining the ideal method for simulating and testing the product/solution in a "real environment". Significant experience in network performance modeling and testing is desirable.
-Provide input to Product Management teams on the functionality, quality, usability, supportability of Harmonic products.
-Participate in the planning, development, and delivery of technical Pre Sales training on Harmonic products. Due to the significant experience level of customers, the candidate must be prepared to answer difficult questions that often will require significant past system level experience.
-Provide technical support to Marketing in developing and implementing marketing programs (e.g.: collateral, events, shows, etc.) and participate in tradeshows by providing technical demonstrations and expertise
-Participate in customer meetings, conferences, etc., where there is a requirement for technical depth beyond that available from other Marketing functions.
-Must be able to create and deliver highly technical presentations to customers and internal personnel.
-Work with Product Management and the Sales organization to understand and position competitive issues at the device level.

Years of Direct Experience Required:

There is no specific requirement for years of direct experience in either technical marketing or a related field. The number of years will determine whether the candidate will be hired at an entry level or at a more senior level.

Areas of Direct Experience:
-Broad, overall systems and software knowledge required with significant enterprise technical depth in: system hardware/software, applications, servers and storage products.
-Technical program management and coordination experience a plus.
-Experience in performance interoperability and benchmarking assessment, planning, and execution.
-Experience in working with 3rd party partners to analyze and research integration opportunities between partners and Harmonic Systems.
-Experience in generating various technical documents and reports include best practices guides and whitepapers.
-Strong knowledge of Windows NT/2000/XP, UNIX, Linux, Apple, interfaces, and administration tools.
-Strong writing, PowerPoint, and communication skills required
-Must have the ability to analyze and troubleshoot all levels of a system.

Educational Requirements:
BSCS, BSEE, or equivalent experience.
