[KITlist-Tech] Software QA Project Lead (Monterey or Lakewood, CA or CO)

This is a dynamic role for an experienced and influential software QA professional who thrives in fast-paced, agile project teams and who collaborates effectively with senior engineers and architects and across multiple departments. Pacific Metrics has an open position based either in Lakewood, CO or Monterey, CA.

The Software QA Project Lead is responsible for all quality issues throughout the software development lifecycle. This individual effectively advocates for quality from the development of initial system requirements through code development and final testing in a hands-on role. While advocating for quality at each SDLC phase, this individual prevents and removes obstacles to quality, leads the scope of QA activities, and executes various types of hands-on testing. The Software QA Project Lead designs test plans that prove system performance meets customer requirements, coordinates QA activities and fellow team members, executes testing, and reports results in the context of business objectives.

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Quality Assurance, the Software QA Project Lead is responsible for the following:
• Lead QA activity within software development teams to analyze requirements and design effective measures of performance and quality during all phases of the software development lifecycle
o Participate in requirements definition and analysis of business needs
o Define and refine written requirements
o Identify and resolve ambiguities in requirements
o Advocate for quality levels aligned with project goals
o Serve as a customer-facing technical support representative during deployment
• Design test plans and create test cases
o Write test plans for systems under test
o Review test plans with cross functional team members to solicit feedback and receive approval of test plan
o Design functional, system test cases for positive scenarios, negative scenarios, and data validation
• Execute test cases and test plans, and report results
o Implement test cases, both manual and automated, including peer reviews
o Track and report defects
o Lead and direct others in QA activities
o Communicate the nature and level of risks associated with defects
o Re-test to verify defect resolution

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following:

Education and Experience
• 5 or more years overall software QA experience, including designing and executing test cases
• 2 years analyzing quality in a full SDLC project team, including in-depth front-end analysis of business needs and writing requirements and on-going analysis of the application of customer requirements through engineering design, code development, testing and deployment
• 3 years of grey box code-level review experience in XML, HTML, Java & Perl; ability to analyze code, follow a schema definition the defined elements and identify defects in data structures
• 2 years of experience in agile project methodology
• Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
• SQA certification preferred
• Basic certifications in SQL, JAVA, or PERL desirable
Skills and Knowledge
• Comprehensive understanding of all aspects of QA methods and practices
• Ability to lead QA activities in agile, waterfall, and hybrid methodologies with dynamic teams
• Ability to develop business and user requirements
• Ability to identify and resolve ambiguities or catch design flaws within requirements documentation
• Ability to persuasively identify, quantify and communicate risks to multiple constituencies, both highly technical and business oriented
• Demonstrated commitment to prevent design defects as opposed to only fix them after code development
• Demonstrated ability to design, write, and execute automated tests using a software automation test tool (Selenium, TestComplete, or SoapUI a plus)
• Intermediate SQL skills (how to navigate through a directory and run queries)
• Understanding of RDBM structures and functionality
• Ability to lead and direct internal QA teams of testers
• Knowledge of mobile device QA a plus
