Job Description The cloud infrastructure and services group has needs for a Software Architect for our Hybrid Cloud and Service Provider Cloud products focusing on building world class platforms and solutions to facilitate adoption of private and public cloud computing. We are a growing team and are looking for a strong technical leader to provide architectural oversight and technical guidance for our Cloud service products.
We are seeking a highly motivated, hands-on senior software architect with strong customer focus. The ideal candidate for this role is someone with a strong technical background, excellent inter-personal skills, and with experience in delivering products using AGILE or SCRUM methodologies. Any experience in building and running SaaS in cloud environments through distributed systems in systems management space developed using Java/Spring technologies is preferred.
In this role you will be a key technical owner and driver of the Hybrid Cloud and Service Provider engineering products that provide an innovative and trailblazing path to cloud computing usage worldwide and in vCloud Director/vSphere based cloud adoption.
As part of Hybrid cloud and Service provider cloud engineering projects, you will have an opportunity to:
- Provide technical leadership and mentor a team of development and QA engineers and enable them to deliver cutting edge products
- Work with Product Management to prioritize and define feature sets.
- Work closely with the development and QE teams to:
o Deliver Hybrid Cloud solutions in the areas of content federation, data center extension and other platform related services
o Deliver products to enable customer and reseller management to be part of VMWare's Service Provider Cloud offerings
o Deliver products to automate VMWare cloud suite deployment
Requirements:
- Bachelor´s degree in Computer Science or equivalent. MSCS desirable.
- 15+ years of experience architecting and developing enterprise class software with strong focus on performance, availability and scalability.
- In-depth experience with Java/Spring, XML, Hibernate, JPA and REST Web services
- Experience dealing with scalability, availability and multi-tenancy requirements in a SAAS environment, preferred
- Experience leading and delivering solutions, as web applications and services using Java Script/HTML/Flex and Java/Spring is a must. Exposure to Scala based development is a plus.
- Experience with AGILE and/or SCRUM methods of project development, QA methodologies and practices, a must.
- In-depth experience with object oriented programming in a multi-threaded environment and with loosely coupled distributed systems highly desired
- Understanding of vSphere/vCloud Director APIs a big plus.
- Strong leadership, people management and communication skills and well versed in managing conflicts and bringing technical resolution to open issues
- Strong analytical, software design and problem solving skills, attention to detail.
- Proven track record of architecting and delivering highly rated products.
- Experience leading teams in development and QA engineering a plus
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership, mentor and motivate an engineering group with opportunities for growth
- Research and implement new practices, tools, and technologies to increase R&D efficiency
- Perform architecture reviews, design reviews, help with code reviews where required and work closely with senior engineers to guide the team in delivering the product
- Triage bugs taking into account customer use-cases, competitive landscape to ship a viable product on time, with good quality.
- Work with cross-functional teams (Product management, support etc.) to ensure areas of responsibility meet the quality and feature requirements for each release
- Delivery of solutions in Hybrid cloud area that are best of class which results in driving adoption of cloud computing worldwide
- Delivery of products for the Service provider cloud offerings which would include automation frameworks for extending services and automated deployment of vCloud Suite of products
