[KITlist-Tech] Sr. Thermal Mechanical Engineer (San Jose, CA)

Please direct your responses to: paty@resultants.com

Position Title: Senior Thermal/Mechanical Engineer

You will be responsible for architecting advanced liquid cooling solutions for servers, desktop PCs and workstations for this start up in the thermal cooling space. You should be able to apply textbook theory to practical application in developing thermal solutions that facilitate higher thermal densities, lower power consumption -- and in the case of desktop PCs and workstations, lower noise. You will use your advanced mechanical engineering skills to model and predict server and PC hardware thermal profiles. Responsibilities may also include defining test plans, thermal testing, benchmarking, and thermal and power profiling. Prior experience with system-level thermal design, benchmarking, over-clocking, and I/Cs are highly desirable.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Support sales, marketing, and customers in integrating thermal solutions into OEM products
• Simulate, calculate and predict thermal performance in computer-related applications
• Design mechanical and thermal solutions for product integration
• Research thermal solutions that the company can apply to maintain leading-edge performance and strengthen value proposition
• Optimize components around a given solution (i.e., heat exchangers, cold plates, fans, etc.)
• Conduct component and system level testing (thermal, acoustics, fluid dynamics, and benchmark testing) in a scientific manner to validate system performance
• Construct benchmark tests to exploit the benefits of liquid cooling
• Cooperate with development teams in other countries on reviews and multi-site development issues
• Must be able to influence and drive consensus with both internal and external customers and teams

Requirements
• MS or equivalent in thermal / mechanical engineering
• 5+ years using 3D CAD, Solidworks preferred (ProE Wildfire a plus)
• Proficient in CFD and thermal modeling, Icepak preferred (Flotherm a plus)
• Proficiency in analytical modeling of heat exchangers and thermal systems
• Demonstrated competence creating 2D drawings for machining with GD&T
• Experience prototyping in fast paced environment
• Good with hands in building prototypes, retrofitting server and PC chassis. Prior experience building PC´s. Experience building racks and servers a big plus.
• Working knowledge of specifying fans and pumps
• Excellent thermal lab testing skills, working with DAQ, thermocouples, wind chamber and noise testing
• Ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines with minimal direction
• Ability to not only report results -- but also identify and articulate where to exploit areas of strength
• Strong interpersonal as well as oral and written communication abilities
• Energetic, motivated, and a self-starter
