Master Data Services Architect
Mountain View, CA

Our Client, a multibillion dollar software provider of business and financial management solutions for small and mid-sized businesses is seeking a Master Data Services Architect within their Business Intelligence Group.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Master Data Services Architect reports directly into the Chief Technologist for Data & Analytics and will own all aspects of systems architecture to support master data services, reference services, and other real-time data/analytics services for the company. The goal is to use data as a strategic advantage to delight our customers in their shop, buy, and user experiences. The data includes quantitative data (clickstream, transactions, demographic, product usage), qualitative data (surveys and usability study results), unstructured data (problem description in English for customer support) as well as data from enterprise applications like ERP and CRM systems. The responsibility will include design, development, and support of our real-time data services using all our data assets. This individual will be responsible for building a world-class capability in all of these areas over a multi-year horizon. Key responsibilities and challenges for this position include:

• Define the architecture for the master data management systems mastering the key entities within the company to be delivered with real-time services for in-product use. Similarly define for reference data. Guide the implementation of these services.

• Define the architecture for real time data services serving analytic profiles for in-product use. Guide the implementation of these services.

• Ensure scalability and robustness of these real-time data services to support tens of millions of customers using our online web and mobile products for consumers and small businesses. Align the level of data consistency required across products and globally distributed data centers to be commensurate with application-specific needs.

• Leverage new data infrastructure like Hadoop, NOSQL databases like Cassandra, and Newer SQL technologies like VoltDB and SQLFire as needed to design optimal architectures.

• Act as an industry thought leader to continue to build up awareness of the company as a front-runner for data-driven products. This will involve speaking at industry events, sharing best-practices with other companies, building working relationships with key data experts, firms, and consultants, and more. .

• Act as a core member of the central data and analytics team and help drive and resolve broader team and business issues around our general state of customer experience data.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Ten or more years of data architecture experience. Candidate must have demonstrated an ability to diagnose a company´s needs in real-time data services and build an enterprise-class capability to meet those needs.

• Deep knowledge of relational database architectures, modeling and data integration

• Five years experience with databases larger than 10TB, with transaction rates of thousands per second and business critical availability.

• Five years experience with designing and building data services at large scale with transaction rates and availability as above

• Five years experience coding in SQL and Java as well as using JBoss, WebLogic, memcached, Apache Webserver, Application Servers and related technologies

• Some experience with Oracle and MySQL required

• Knowledge of SDLC (including build and smoke test tools) is required

• Some experience with big data architectures such as MPP, Hadoop, and NOSQL would be a strong advantage

• Broad mastery of data architecture - Candidate must have a mastery of a wide range of data architectures beyond data services including data warehouse, real-time database for personalization, master data management (MDM), customer data integration (CDI), unstructured data and metadata in order to best define the appropriate data architecture that will address our unique business and product analytic needs. Candidate must have demonstrated an ability to diagnose a company´s needs in these areas and build an enterprise-class capability to meet those needs.

• Proven leadership and influence skills - This individual will be driving a fundamental transformation in the way a $4B+ company uses data to drive business results. This will require changing mindset and behavior in business unit teams that do not report directly into this role. The candidate must have demonstrated not only an ability to lead and motivate a team of direct reports, but also the ability to drive change across a broader organization through influence.

• B.S./B.A. degree in an Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or other technical fields. Higher level degree is strongly preferred.
