Job Description:
Potential T-P. The Enterprise Data Center Operations department provides centralized computing services to the University of California at San Francisco Medical Center. The Operations Engineer will provide operational support for systems hardware, peripherals, and software within the Client's Data Center including the Windows/Linux and Solaris platforms, as well as IBM Mainframe, Tandem, MVS, VMS, & VMware. In addition, Enterprise Data Center Operations is responsible for the Network Operations Center (NOC), and provides backup and recovery services for the client.
The Operations Engineer will install, configure, and maintain enterprise servers and peripherals on multiple platforms utilizing predefined processes & documentation. The Operations Engineer will proactively monitor managed systems utilizing industry standard tools (e.g. HP SIM, Microsoft SCOM, XMS, Mainframe MVS, and other network and application monitoring tools) to provide alert validation and event escalation. In addition, they will work with engineering personnel to identify areas of possible automation and/or improvements to provide better internal customer service & enhance problem resolution techniques.
The Operations Engineer is responsible for Tier 1-3 troubleshooting and repair of enterprise hardware, software, and infrastructure applications escalating to Sr. Operations Engineers and vendor support when necessary. Must provide phone and email support to internal customers during normal and non-business hours, including weekends and holidays, and work with multiple teams of various technical disciplines to provide timely status and completion updates for problem tickets.
This department operates 24 hours, 7 days a week.
