JOB DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES
• The Enterprise Data Center Operations department provides centralized computing services to the client. The Operations Engineer will provide operational support for systems hardware, peripherals, and software within the client´s Data Center including the Windows/Linux and Solaris platforms, as well as IBM Mainframe, Tandem, MVS, VMS, & VMware.
• In addition, Enterprise Data Center Operations is responsible for the Network Operations Center (NOC), and provides backup and recovery services.

REQUIREMENT:
• 6-8+ years of experience in Data Center Operations supporting a 7 x 24 x 365 facility
• Command Center and/or Network Operations Center (NOC) work experience
• Experience with Service Request tools and processes for installations (adds, changes, deletes) for servers, cabling, racks, and environmental (power, UPS, HVAC, etc.)
• Ability to diplomatically interact with clients and co-workers and remain calm and organized during tense situations
• Experience with developing and implementing in-house training processes to help deliver knowledge transfer to more junior personnel
• Experience with rack and install of Windows on multiple platforms and Linux/Unix on multiple platforms, including installation, configuration, and QA check of pre-engineered OS build
• Demonstrated technical skills to install, manipulate, monitor, and operate a variety of IT hardware in 7 ft. rack enclosures
• Demonstrated skills to research, learn, and utilize concepts, policies, and procedures relating to data center server hardware, rack-mounted console hardware, UPS units and power distribution equipment
• Demonstrated skills to research, learn, and utilize concepts, policies, and procedures relating to supported enterprise applications such as AD, Exchange, VMware, SQL, Backups, BES, etc.
• Working knowledge of IP networking, DNS, DHCP, and basic network troubleshooting tools and procedures
• Solid understanding and ability to utilize virtualization technologies such as VMware to build and manage enterprise servers
• Ensure Windows & Linux systems are patched and securely maintained in according with best practices utilizing in-house & best-of-breed tools
• Provide systems backups and data recovery within an enterprise environment utilizing EMC Legato NetWorker
• Provide proactive and responsive monitoring for all aspects of the Data Center utilizing enterprise tools
• Provide Tier 1 troubleshooting and repair of hardware, operating system, and infrastructure applications, such as AD, DNS, & Exchange, escalating to Operations Engineering where necessary

QUALIFICATIONS:
• The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated and experienced Operations Engineer
• Strong working knowledge of technical documentation tools including Excel, Visio, and other Microsoft Office and 3rd party applications
• Experience with Enterprise backup solutions in multi-platform environment (EMC Legato a plus)
• Experience with Enterprise Monitoring systems (Microsoft SCOM & HP SIM required)
• Experienced working with IBM, HP, Dell, Sun servers and storage
• Ability to utilize 3rd party enterprise monitoring and management tools for server and environmental support
• TCP/IP networking experience – knowledge of TCP/IP model layers 1-4 in enterprise environment essential
• Knowledge and experience with utility computing platforms including VMware and blade servers
• Basic knowledge and experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Exchange, File & Print Services, etc.
