Job Title: Lead Developer/Ruby on Rails

Job Description:
Our client is a start-up located in San Mateo whose product is a web-based marketing software solution. Underlying the product is a powerful, UI-rich SaaS application and database of proprietary consumer data, developed in Ruby on Rails.

This position represents a unique opportunity for the right Lead Developer. You will be the first lead engineer on a team bringing a breakthrough marketing technology product to market. You will join a well-funded startup with Fortune-1000 customers. You'll have the opportunity to recruit others like yourself to create and implement the latest Agile Development processes to deliver elegant solutions that support critical decisions. You will solve complex business problems using best practices for RoR programming, data visualization and statistical analysis.

Specific Duties include:

Create and lead the company Agile Development Process; to include TDD, Pair Programming and Continuous Integration.
Integrate local and off-shore teams and coordinate all development activities.
Lead end-to-end web development, delivered on time and with the highest quality standards.
Design, architect, implement, and QA new functionality.
Work creatively to solve challenging problems, including usability, performance and mathematics problems.
Be hands on and "do what it takes" to help build the company.

Required Skills:
Computer Science undergraduate degree required with strong academic credentials, masters preferred.
At least two years of hands-on Ruby on Rails experience.
5+ years work experience as a software engineer.
Previous web startup experience, ideally for a B2B SaaS product.
Demonstrated leadership ability and self-starter mentality.
Experience working in an Agile environment. In particular, extensive experience with pair programming, TDD and continuous integration a must.
At least two years of management experience leading a development team.
Demonstrable knowledge of front-end web programming.
Understanding of scalability, systems engineering, and algorithms.
Experience with automated testing / continuous integration frameworks.
Experience with database optimization (EXPLAIN, indexes, replication).
Experience provisioning and managing cloud resources (Engine Yard, Heroku, App Engine, or equivalent).
Strong user experience design / interaction design reasoning skills.
Familiarity with the popular Rails Plugins/Gems.
